How to check your Gmail account activity

Do you think that some one else might have logged into your Gmail account and not sure how you can check that. There is a way to check your Gmail account activity. Before getting into more details lets understand what ‘Last account activity’ is. According to Google last account activity shows you information about recent activity in your mail which includes regular web browser, a POP client, a mobile device, a third party application along with the IP address that accessed your email, location and also the data and time. By looking at this data you can identify if your account is compromised or not. To do this click on ‘Details’  which is to the right bottom corner.

Here is an example, if the ‘Access Type’ column shows POP access, but you don’t use POP to collect your email, it may be a sign that your account has been compromised. The best thing that you can do at this time is to change password immediately to secure your account against unauthorized access.

About the location or the IP address, you can see up to 10 IP addresses your email was accessed from. If you receive a warning about any suspicious activity in you Gmail account then you might also see 3 more IP addresses that have been labeled as suspicious. Your IP will remain the same or the first two set of numbers (in my case 223.227.xx.xx) in the IP address will usually remain the same if you sign in from a single computer. If you are using Mail Fetcher with another Gmail account then Google IP will appear as the messages are being fetched through Google servers. When you access Gmail from a mobile device, your mobile gateways maybe in a different geographical location from where you are. If your email is currently being accessed from another location then it will be listed under ‘Concurrent sessions information table’. You also have an option to Sign out all other sessions as shown here. You can even turnoff the alert but I would strongly recommend to keep it (enabled) in its default settings.

One Response so far.
